At an international AI conference held at Cairo University, four Egyptian ministers discussed the future role of Artificial Intelligence in the country. The session focused on integrating AI into infrastructure, education, healthcare, and employment to enhance national development. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health Khaled Abdel Ghaffar emphasized the importance of AI as a crucial component of infrastructure, warning of economic repercussions if the workforce does not adapt. He advocated for AI to complement human roles. Communications and Information Technology Minister Amr Talaat highlighted significant investments in digital infrastructure, positioning Egypt among Africa’s top internet providers. He detailed the nation’s revised AI strategy, which includes open data initiatives, privacy protections, and support for 250 AI startups over the next five years. Higher Education Minister Ayman Ashour stressed the need for AI integration across academic disciplines, introducing new guidelines for ethical use and training programs that blend AI with innovation. Labor Minister Mohamed Gobran noted the rapid transformation of the labor market, with traditional jobs disappearing. A national committee is working to identify future skill requirements, while the ministry expands vocational training and partnerships to prepare the youth for AI-driven careers. The session concluded with a call for coordinated national efforts to integrate AI across sectors and equip the workforce for emerging challenges.
