Huawei took the spotlight at TowerXchange Africa 2025 in Nairobi, emphasizing its pivotal role in advancing the energy transition within the telecommunications sector. The event, co-hosted with ITW Africa and Datacloud Africa, gathered tower companies, mobile network operators, investors, and infrastructure innovators to shape the future of Africa’s connectivity and energy infrastructure.
In a keynote address, Muhammad Shariq Ansari, Huawei’s Chief Technology Officer for Site Energy MEA, highlighted the critical need for reliable networks to close the digital gap, especially in rural areas. He urged operators and tower companies to adopt AI-driven operational strategies to cut costs, boost performance, and speed up deployment.
Ansari stated, “Africa’s digital future relies on resilient networks powered by intelligent, sustainable energy solutions.” Huawei showcased its high-quality lithium-ion batteries that ensure uninterrupted power, enhance safety, and promote sustainability at telecom sites. Ansari also introduced the L.I.G.H.T framework, designed to guide tower companies through digital transformation and unlock new revenue opportunities.
The event also featured Huawei’s collaboration with Vodacom Group. Liren Naidoo, Vodacom’s Executive Head of Group Access Networks, presented the “Slim and Helical Pile Tower,” a solution piloted in Mozambique that reduces costs and accelerates rollout, supporting digital inclusion across Africa.
Naidoo remarked, “Our partnership with Huawei is helping us reimagine infrastructure to make connectivity more accessible and affordable.”
Huawei and Vodacom’s joint presence at the summit underscored their commitment to driving Africa’s digital transformation through advanced energy solutions and innovative infrastructure, paving the way for efficient, sustainable, and future-ready networks.
