How Did Anda Secure $3.4M to Transform Angola’s Mobility Sector?

The Angolan startup Anda has secured $3.4 million in seed funding, co-led by European venture capital firms Breega and Speedinvest, to revolutionize the country’s motorcycle taxi industry. Founded in 2022 by Sergio Tati and Joerg Nuehrmann, Anda aims to bring structure to this informal sector by offering a “drive-to-own” financing model for drivers. This initiative not only provides new motorcycles but also includes formal training, insurance, and safety equipment, empowering drivers to eventually own their vehicles. This approach seeks to address the credit gap and lack of regulation in Angola’s estimated $5 billion informal mobility market, which relies on around 1.2 million motorcycle taxi drivers. Anda’s proprietary technology supports this model, offering a ride-hailing app and digital payment processing. The investment highlights Angola’s potential in the tech ecosystem and signals a step forward in building a modern economy focused on financial inclusion and driver empowerment. The funds will be used to expand the motorcycle fleet and enhance the technology platform, with plans for further growth beyond Angola.
