In 2025, Pakistan’s Directorate General of Immigration and Passports experienced a significant surge in passport issuance, transforming the way citizens obtain travel documents. The department reported that 5.5 million passports were issued, comprising 3.2 million normal, 1.8 million urgent, and 276,000 fast-track passports. There was also a notable increase in the adoption of electronic passports.
This progress was largely attributed to reforms led by the Director-General of Passports, following directives from national leaders. Modern printing machines were introduced, eliminating the backlog of applications. A groundbreaking 24/7 passport processing and delivery service was launched, allowing citizens to access services at any time. Renovations at the headquarters and regional offices enhanced public facilities.
Overseas Pakistanis benefited from a streamlined one-window service at embassies, and a new passport book with enhanced security features was introduced. The network of passport offices and counters was expanded, further facilitating access to passport services across the nation.
