Amap, Alibaba Group’s online mapping service, has partnered with China’s crisis management agency to introduce an AI-driven technology aimed at detecting and preventing road emergencies. This initiative comes as 1.87 billion people are expected to travel by car during one of China’s busiest holiday periods. The “Eagle Eye Guardian” alert system, launched by Amap and the China Academy of Safety Science and Technology, seeks to enhance responses to major highway incidents. By integrating multiple data sources, including map navigation and mobile phone positioning, the system can quickly identify road and bridge disasters and alert drivers. Utilizing artificial intelligence models and spatial intelligence, it analyzes traffic patterns, covering 17 driving scenarios such as sudden braking. The system is now active nationwide and coincides with the National Day holiday, a peak travel time in China.
