Discussions are intensifying around enhancing AI capabilities for local manufacturing companies through industry-academia collaboration. The Busan AI Innovation Center at Dong-Eui University is actively sharing the latest AI technology trends and practical application cases with local businesses to facilitate this. Despite AI being crucial for competitiveness in the manufacturing sector, many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) struggle with its adoption. To address this, the Busan AI Innovation Center has been showcasing AI utilization examples to local companies. On June 16, the Center held an ‘AI Technology Trend Sharing and Industry-Academia Cooperation Exchange Meeting’ in Busan, attended by over 30 participants, including local manufacturing representatives. Center Director Jung Seokchan presented on current AI technologies and their applications, offering strategies for adoption. Professor Ryu Byunggon highlighted a case study on predictive maintenance systems using AI, which helps in reducing maintenance costs and preventing production halts. Jang Wonho, CEO of Wonder Solutions, shared experiences from joint industry-academia projects, discussing challenges and solutions in AI implementation. Attendees exchanged views on technology adoption challenges, underlining the importance of collaboration. Director Jung emphasized AI’s role in boosting productivity and competitiveness, pledging ongoing support for local companies. So Soonmin, CEO of Shinmi Precision, noted the difficulty SMEs face in applying AI practically, stressing the need for practical application cases to enhance competitiveness.
