Tanzanian agri-tech startup MazaoHub has successfully secured USD 2 million in a pre-seed funding round, surpassing initial expectations. This financial boost will enable the expansion of its AI-driven, climate-smart farming platform throughout Africa. Established in 2023 by CEO Geophrey Tenganamba, MazaoHub integrates artificial intelligence with practical agronomy to enhance productivity and resilience for smallholder farmers facing climate challenges. The funding round included USD 1.5 million in equity, led by Catalyst Fund and supported by various investors, alongside USD 500,000 in non-dilutive capital from the Livelihood Impact Fund. MazaoHub’s innovative approach combines technology and personal agronomic support, utilizing soil sensors, portable kits, and farm management software. Furthermore, its CropSupply.com platform offers farmers a direct connection to buyers, ensuring full traceability. The newly acquired funds will be directed towards increasing the production of soil kits and sensors, expanding Farmer Excellence Centers, and scaling up CropSupply.com. These efforts aim to link farmers to markets more effectively, reduce fertilizer usage, cut emissions, and bolster climate resilience.
