North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is at the forefront of advancing artificial intelligence through its 2025 AI Conference in Greensboro. The event, themed “Exponential Intelligence,” explores innovative ways AI can enhance daily tasks and research. AI’s applications span various fields, including music, arts, disaster recovery, and infrastructure development. Following Hurricane Helene, AI has proven to be a crucial tool for efficient rebuilding efforts. Researchers are using image object detection to identify damage and locate trapped individuals or livestock. Assistant Professor Yuhan Jiang highlights that AI can digitize and expedite research processes in areas that are hazardous or time-consuming for humans. By utilizing cameras, drones, and AI, cracks in pavements can be analyzed for width and length, allowing city engineers to address damages promptly. Furthermore, AI aids in creating 3D models to compare pre- and post-disaster conditions, facilitating loss estimation and recovery planning.
