How will China leverage the 2026 World AI Conference for global AI advancement?

China is committed to aiding Global South countries in enhancing their AI capabilities, using the forthcoming World Artificial Intelligence Conference as a platform to promote AI for the benefit of all. During a press briefing in Beijing, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning emphasized China’s dedication to international AI cooperation, particularly with developing nations.

She highlighted China’s role in fostering global AI governance, implementing initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping, and offering open-source AI models like DeepSeek and Qwen to reduce barriers and costs for AI applications. These efforts aim to ensure equitable access to AI advancements, especially for developing countries.

China is set to host the 2026 World AI Conference and a High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance in Shanghai from July 17 to 20. The event is envisioned as an opportunity for collaborative discussions on technological innovation, achievement promotion, and ecosystem inclusivity, with the goal of advancing AI for global benefit and stimulating worldwide AI development.
