iOS 27 is officially available as a free software update after a summer of beta testing. The release brings a conversational Siri AI and expanded Apple Intelligence features, more control over Liquid Glass, system-wide improvements and a range of new tools across Photos, Safari and accessibility.
iOS 27: Siri AI and Apple Intelligence
The headline feature in iOS 27 is Siri AI, a more conversational assistant that can use personal context to find information across your messages, emails, photos and other content. Siri AI also understands onscreen information, supports more actions across apps, and lets you ask follow-up questions or request help with what you’re viewing.
Apple adds a dedicated Siri app so you can revisit conversations and continue them across supported Apple devices. A Siri mode in Camera brings Visual Intelligence into the viewfinder so you can ask about things around you, while Write with Siri helps draft and revise text and can adapt to your writing style in Messages and Mail.
Siri AI and the new Apple Intelligence features require iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or an iPhone 16 model or later. iPhone Air and iPhone Duo also support Siri AI.
How to install iOS 27
To download iOS 27, open Settings → General → Software Update on your iPhone, select the iOS 27 upgrade and follow the onscreen instructions. Before installing, back up your iPhone using iCloud or a computer; Apple also provides installation instructions if you need help. You may need to swipe down on the Software Update page to reveal the iOS 27 option.
Liquid Glass, performance and Photos edits
iOS 27 adds a slider in Settings to adjust Liquid Glass from clear to fully tinted, and Apple says it has refined app icons and the system appearance. Performance is also a focus: Apple reports faster app launches, quicker loading of newly captured photos and faster AirDrop transfers in its testing. Search improvements aim to make results more useful in Spotlight, Photos and Mail.
On supported iPhones, the Photos app gains several editing options: Spatial Reframing to adjust composition by virtually changing the camera position; Extend to expand an image beyond its original edges; and Clean Up to remove larger objects with improved results.
Safari, system settings and safety updates
Safari gains automatic tab grouping by topic, and a Notify Me feature can monitor a webpage for changes such as price drops or an item returning to stock.
Other additions in iOS 27 include AirPods Custom EQ, separate alarm and timer volume controls, and expanded parental controls that let guardians approve new websites with Ask to Browse, set app schedules and manage daily time allowances. Communication Safety updates extend protections to images and videos containing gore or violence. Call Context can surface relevant information, such as a reservation number, during supported business calls. Accessibility improvements expand capabilities in VoiceOver, Magnifier, Accessibility Reader and Voice Control.
