iOS 27 rollout: timing and scope
Apple announced the official iOS 27 release date days before it went live, and it stuck to that schedule. The update entered beta testing on June 8 and rolled out to existing devices before Apple’s latest iPhones reached retail shelves. According to the rollout, iOS 27 is now being distributed to all eligible iPhones globally at the same time.
One UI 9 still awaiting a stable schedule
By contrast, Samsung has not announced a concrete release date for One UI 9 more than a month after the first Galaxy devices that ship with One UI 9—the Galaxy Z8 foldables—went on sale. One UI 9 remains in beta for older devices, including the Galaxy S26 series. The closest indication from Samsung was a Community forum post a couple of weeks ago stating the stable One UI 9.0 for the Galaxy S26 series would roll out “soon,” but no firm date has followed.
Samsung started beta testing One UI 9 earlier than Apple began iOS 27 beta testing, and yet the stable timeline for older Galaxy devices remains unclear. When Samsung does begin a stable rollout, the company’s updates are expected to vary by device and region rather than matching Apple’s simultaneous global push.
Where things stand
The September 14 release highlighted Apple’s ability to set expectations and deliver on them. Samsung’s update process has improved in recent years but, based on these rollouts, still lacks the same level of predictability. One bright spot: One UI 9 on the latest Samsung foldables is reported to work well, and it remains to be seen whether that experience will extend to other Galaxy models once their stable updates arrive.
