Mark Gurman says Apple will prioritize adding Face ID and a telephoto lens to future iPhone Duo models, and he expects those features to appear by the device’s third generation. He notes the iPhone Duo debuted with Touch ID and dual rear cameras, a configuration he says was likely driven by physical constraints.
iPhone Duo roadmap to Face ID and telephoto
In his Power On newsletter, Gurman writes that his expectation is Apple will combine component miniaturization and advances in artificial intelligence to fit Face ID and a telephoto lens into the iPhone Duo by the third generation. He adds this approach would allow Apple to “use smaller, less sophisticated depth-sensing and camera hardware while making up some of the difference computationally.”
The iPhone Duo officially launches on October 23.
