Apple’s plans to incorporate a 200-megapixel camera into future iPhones remain distant, as such a sensor is not yet part of active prototype testing. Discussions within the supply chain are ongoing, but the focus of Apple’s camera development continues to be on enhancing 48-megapixel systems. This aligns with recent reports, despite speculation that a 200-megapixel camera could arrive by 2028. While Samsung has already introduced a 200-megapixel camera in its Galaxy S23 Ultra, Apple’s current prototypes are testing a 48-megapixel main camera with variable aperture and a telephoto camera with longer focal length and larger aperture. These features are expected in the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro models, highlighting Apple’s focus on optical versatility and low-light performance over sheer resolution. The 200-megapixel sensors are reportedly in the early evaluation stages, and Apple is also exploring multispectral imaging technology, though it remains in preliminary phases.
