Is Alibaba’s new AI model, Qwen3-Max, a match for OpenAI and Google?

Alibaba Group’s AI and cloud computing division has introduced its most advanced AI model to date, the Qwen3-Max, boasting over 1 trillion parameters. This new model is designed to compete with leading American AI models, highlighting Alibaba’s commitment to closing the gap with its US counterparts. Unveiled just before the Apsara Conference in Hangzhou, Qwen3-Max is said to excel in coding, reasoning, and multilingual tasks. It reportedly matches or exceeds the performance of top models from companies like Anthropic, DeepSeek, xAI, and OpenAI. Although not open-sourced, Qwen3-Max is available via Alibaba’s cloud platform.
