Is Apple launching a foldable iPhone this year?

Apple is gearing up to introduce its first foldable iPhone, potentially named “iPhone Ultra,” in September. This new model is anticipated to be the most significant redesign in the iPhone’s history, surpassing the impact of previous models like the iPhone 4, iPhone 6, and iPhone X. The foldable iPhone is expected to open like a book, similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7, offering a large inner screen ideal for video viewing, gaming, and multitasking. iOS 27 will be optimized for this device, enabling apps to be used side-by-side and incorporating multitasking features akin to those found on iPads.

The foldable iPhone is said to feature a 7.7-inch inner display and a 5.3-inch outer display. While initial reports suggested a crease-free inner screen, it has since been clarified that the technology will minimize but not completely eliminate the crease. The device is expected to include two rear cameras, a front camera, and a Touch ID power button instead of Face ID. In the United States, the starting price for the foldable iPhone is estimated to be $1,999 or higher.

Apple plans to reveal the foldable iPhone alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. The lineup will also include a standard iPhone 18, a budget-friendly iPhone 18e, and a second-generation iPhone Air, which are expected to be released around March next year.
