The esports industry in Hong Kong is in its nascent stages but is anticipated to experience significant growth in the coming years. This is supported by various government initiatives, including esports education and training programs, as well as collaboration with universities. The Hong Kong government had previously allocated HK$100 million to Cyberport to enhance the esports scene, resulting in the hosting of numerous local and international tournaments. Following a silver medal win by a local team at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, the Hong Kong Sports Institute is set to support 12 players in the upcoming years. Hong Kong players have earned substantial prize money, ranking 48th globally, with popular games including Fortnite and League of Legends. The global gaming gear market is projected to grow significantly, and Hong Kong is expected to see dramatic growth in esports as more gamers and spectators become involved.
