Was 5.7 million Qantas customer data leaked in a global cyberattack?

Australian airline Qantas has revealed that a cyberattack earlier this year led to the online leakage of data from 5.7 million customers. The breach is part of a larger attack that affected numerous global companies, including Disney, Google, IKEA, Toyota, McDonald’s, Air France, and KLM, all linked to vulnerabilities in software company Salesforce. Qantas had previously identified that hackers targeted one of its customer contact centers, exploiting a third-party system now known to be Salesforce. Compromised data includes sensitive customer details such as names, email addresses, phone numbers, and birth dates. Since the initial breach, no further incidents have been reported, and Qantas is working closely with Australian security agencies. The airline emphasized that it was among many worldwide companies impacted by this cyber incident in early July, which resulted in customer data theft via a third-party platform.
