Is Hong Kong’s new AI model a game-changer for domestic chip technology?

The Hong Kong Generative AI Research and Development Centre has unveiled a groundbreaking AI model based on DeepSeek technology, specifically designed to operate on domestic chips. This initiative is part of the centre’s strategy to commercialize its AI innovations and extend Chinese AI influence globally. The latest model, HKGAI-V3, built upon DeepSeek V4, boasts remarkable advancements in efficiency and agent capabilities. It has achieved a tenfold enhancement in token compression efficiency, reducing the processing load and response time, and offers a nearly hundredfold increase in uninterrupted runtime for AI agents. The Agent Workshop platform, leveraging the HKGAI-V3 model, demonstrated impressive stability, operating continuously for up to 28 hours to generate a research report. Established in October 2023 under the InnoHK funding program, the centre is committed to developing AI solutions tailored to the needs of Hong Kong, including the city’s first Cantonese-enabled chatbot, HKChat, and various AI productivity tools for government use.
