A new venture called The Clearing Company has emerged, aiming to make its mark in the prediction market space with a successful $15 million seed funding round. This initiative, spearheaded by former Polymarket executive Toni Gemayel, is backed by prominent investors including Union Square Ventures, Haun Ventures, Variant, and Coinbase Ventures. The startup seeks to establish the first prediction market that is both on-chain and regulated, drawing on the expertise of a team composed largely of former Polymarket employees. Polymarket, a leader in blockchain-based prediction markets, operates on the Polygon network and has attracted substantial investments, including from 1789 Capital. Although currently inaccessible to American users, Polymarket is moving towards regulatory compliance. Meanwhile, Kalshi, another major player in the field, is a federally-regulated platform available to U.S. users, gaining attention for accurate political predictions.
