Is Samsung set to produce chips for Elon Musk’s xAI?

Recently, Samsung has been expanding its collaboration with Elon Musk, having previously secured a $16.5 billion agreement with Tesla to produce the AI6 chip, followed by a deal to manufacture Tesla’s current AI5 chip. Samsung was already responsible for the production of Tesla’s earlier AI4 chip. Now, it appears that Samsung’s partnership with Musk is extending further. Reports suggest that Samsung Foundry has finalized a contract with xAI, an artificial intelligence company founded by Musk, known for developing the Grok chatbot. While the specifics of the contract remain undisclosed, it likely involves chip production for AI accelerators. In preparation, Samsung has reportedly procured three EUV tools for its semiconductor plant in Taylor, USA. Samsung Foundry’s recent advancements, notably in 2nm chip fabrication, have attracted major clients like Apple and Tesla, and with xAI and potentially AMD joining, Samsung is making a notable resurgence in the chip manufacturing industry.
