The fixed-line telephony sector continues its upward trajectory, recording a 6.75% increase by the end of March 2025, reaching a total of 4.28 million subscribers, which translates to an additional 153,000 lines over the past year. The penetration rate now stands at 39.38%. The first quarter of 2025 witnessed subtle shifts in market share distribution: Orange Maroc and inwi saw slight increases, reaching 27.08% and 20.22% respectively, while Maroc Telecom experienced a slight decline, dropping from 54.34% to 52.70%.
Residential customers continue to dominate the market, accounting for 82.94% of subscribers, ahead of professional segments and public payphones. The latter continues to decline significantly, with a 36.90% drop over the year, leaving only 2,004 active units, driven by the rise of mobile telephony and its competitive pricing.
Fixed-line number portability has also seen a surge, with 184,916 operations completed by the end of March 2025, marking a 24.13% increase. This growth is attributed to the introduction of the Operator Identity Statement (RIO) in November 2024, which has reduced the rejection rate of portability requests.
In a global context where fixed-line telephony is generally in decline, Morocco is witnessing an increase in fixed-line voice usage. Outgoing traffic reached 448 million minutes in the first quarter of 2025, compared to 299 million the previous year, representing a 49.58% increase. The average monthly usage per subscriber is also on the rise, increasing from 37 minutes at the end of 2024 to 49 minutes by the end of March 2025.
