The 2025 World AI Conference and High-level Meeting on Global AI Governance commenced on Saturday in Shanghai, China, under the theme “Global Solidarity in the AI Era.” This year’s event has reached unprecedented levels of international participation, featuring a record number of top-tier guests, expanded exhibition space, and numerous new product launches.
For the first time, the exhibition spans over 70,000 square meters, showcasing more than 800 companies and over 3,000 innovative products, including large models, AI devices, and intelligent robots. Over 100 new products are set to debut during the conference.
The three-day event will host various forums and exchanges, with over 1,200 guests from more than 30 countries and regions collaborating to shape the future of global AI development.
As the host city for the eighth consecutive year, Shanghai is striving to lead in AI development and governance. In the first quarter of this year, the city’s AI industry output exceeded 118 billion yuan, marking a 29 percent year-on-year growth and a 65 percent profit increase. AI is emerging as a new engine for Shanghai’s economic growth.
Shanghai focuses on five key areas to maintain its leadership in the AI sector. The city aims to become a hub for industrial innovation by integrating intelligent computing, language data, and foundational models, with a goal of surpassing 100 EFlops in computing capacity by year’s end. It is also establishing AI demonstration bases in industries like manufacturing, finance, and healthcare while accelerating the commercialization of advanced AI models and humanoid robots.
Furthermore, Shanghai is building an open, interconnected ecosystem with comprehensive financial support for AI ventures and nurturing talent through specialized institutes and programs. The city is committed to advancing AI governance, ensuring safety, ethics, and international collaboration for responsible AI growth.
