Qualcomm is set to launch the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chip in China on November 26. Positioned just below the flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, this new chip is built on TSMC’s 3nm process but features reduced clock speeds. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 has a 2+6 CPU core configuration, with the prime cores at 3.8GHz and performance cores at 3.32GHz, compared to the Elite’s 4.6GHz and 3.62GHz, respectively. Both chips share the Adreno 840 GPU, though the 8 Gen 5’s performance is slightly diminished due to these lower speeds. Compatible with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.x storage, it also supports a 5G modem, multi-band GNSS, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, aptX Lossless, and USB 3.2 Type-C. While the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5’s performance may not match the Elite version, it surpasses last year’s model, making it an excellent choice for the Galaxy S26 FE, particularly in markets like Canada, China, and the USA. Further details are anticipated from Qualcomm later this month.
