Waymo is set to broaden its robotaxi services to additional regions within the San Francisco peninsula and parts of Silicon Valley. The company announced this expansion following its recent approval from California, coinciding with Tesla’s upcoming launch of a paid robotaxi service in Austin, Texas. Starting this week, Waymo’s autonomous ride-hailing service will be available in new areas including Brisbane, South San Francisco, San Bruno, Millbrae, and Burlingame. Expansion in Silicon Valley will cover more sections of Palo Alto and Menlo Park. Additionally, Waymo is extending its services to more parts of Los Angeles, encompassing Playa del Rey, Ladera Heights, Echo Park, Silver Lake, and the entirety of Sunset Boulevard. Although the company has received approval to operate in San Jose, it has not yet disclosed specific plans for launching there. Currently, Waymo remains the sole US company offering commercial robotaxi services with paying customers, operating over 1,500 vehicles and facilitating more than 250,000 rides weekly across San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Austin.
