Is Yum China’s AI designed to support rather than replace store managers?

Yum China has introduced Q-Smart, an AI-powered management system, to support store managers with their daily tasks. Unveiled at the company’s AI Day event in Shanghai, Q-Smart facilitates natural language interactions through wireless earphones and smartwatches. The system aids in labor scheduling, inventory management, and quality inspections, while also monitoring sales data and adjusting preparation plans. Currently in pilot testing at select KFC locations, Q-Smart is set for further development and wider deployment. The company aims to enhance operational efficiency and set a benchmark for digital transformation in the catering industry. Despite advancements in AI, Yum China’s CEO emphasizes that the technology is intended to empower employees, not replace them.
