Samsung has begun rolling out the stable One UI 9 update for the Galaxy S23 series. The update is live for beta users in South Korea, with a wider expansion expected in the coming days. All newer Galaxy S models have received One UI 9 in most global markets.
Beta users are receiving a small OTA package (under 500MB) carrying the build version GZIF, which also includes the October security patch. Galaxy S23 devices currently on One UI 8.5 will get a much larger download of about 3GB, as One UI 9 brings a range of new features, interface improvements and security enhancements.
To check for the update, open Settings, go to the Software update menu and tap Check for updates. If no update appears, wait a few days: One UI 9 isn’t expected to reach Galaxy S23 users in most global markets until next week.
One UI 9, Android 17, and update support
One UI 9 is based on Android 17 and represents the fourth and final major Android upgrade for the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+ and Galaxy S23 Ultra. Samsung shipped those phones with Android 13 and had promised four generations of OS upgrades. The company could still release One UI 9.5, but there is no official confirmation; the S23 lineup is not getting One UI 10 (Android 18).
Security updates for the 2023 flagships are expected to continue until early 2028, in line with Samsung’s promise of five years of security support. Those updates may be delivered less frequently over time. The One UI 9 rollout is proceeding in waves by region, carrier and model, and One UI 9.5 has not been released to anyone yet. Community reports and rollout trackers are being used to update eligibility information.
