The International Motoring Federation (FIA) recently confirmed a cybersecurity breach on its Driver Categorization website, compromising the personal data of nearly 7,000 drivers, including Max Verstappen. The breach, which occurred over the summer, was announced at the Mexico City Grand Prix. Hackers accessed sensitive information such as passport numbers and contact details. The FIA has taken immediate steps to secure the data and informed relevant data protection agencies and affected drivers. No other FIA digital platforms were impacted. The breach became public after security researcher Ian Carroll and colleagues accessed confidential information in June, including Verstappen’s documents. They stopped their testing upon realizing the extent of the accessible data and deleted all information. The FIA has since taken the site offline and completed a security overhaul. Verstappen, competing for his fifth world title, has not yet commented but is expected to address the issue soon.
