Was there an Israeli air strike in Doha affecting Irish citizens?

Irish citizens in Qatar have been advised to remain indoors and exercise extreme caution following an Israeli air strike in Doha that resulted in six fatalities. The Department of Foreign Affairs issued a security alert, with the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Simon Harris, emphasizing the importance of staying informed through local and international media and adhering to local authorities’ advice. Although there is no Irish embassy in Qatar, consular support is available from the Irish embassy in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

The Israeli government stated that the attack targeted Hamas officials in retaliation for a recent shooting in Jerusalem. The United States confirmed they warned Qatar about the impending strike, but the warning came too late. Video footage shows a bustling area engulfed in black smoke following the bombing.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin condemned the attack, highlighting its potential to destabilize the region further and complicate ceasefire efforts in Gaza. He described it as a violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and called for diplomatic solutions over military actions. While Hamas reported no senior leaders were harmed, Qatar, known for facilitating ceasefire talks, is considering legal action against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the breach of international law. This incident marks Israel’s first strike on Qatari soil.
