What Are the Exciting New Features in macOS 27?

As anticipation builds for Apple’s WWDC 2026 event, attention has largely been on iOS 27, but macOS 27 is also set to introduce exciting new features. While specifics remain scarce, users can expect notable updates.

One of the key changes involves a slight redesign of the Liquid Glass interface, which has been criticized for its performance on Macs compared to iPhones. Apple aims to enhance transparency and shadow effects, although a complete overhaul is not expected.

Siri is poised for significant improvements, with a smarter version making its way to macOS. A new interface and possibly a standalone app are anticipated, potentially mirroring the dark-themed design hinted at for iOS. Whether this will integrate with the Mac’s notch remains to be seen.

AI-driven upgrades are also on the horizon. The Photos app will introduce options like Extend and Reframe for creative image manipulation, though some features may not be ready at launch. Image Playground is set to enhance image realism, and a wallpaper-generating feature is likely to debut. The Shortcuts app will leverage AI for easier shortcut creation, and Writing Tools will expand to include grammar checks and text generation. Safari will introduce automatic tab organization for streamlined browsing.

Performance and bug fixes are a priority, with Apple aiming for a “Snow Leopard-style update” to enhance macOS’s underlying quality. Notably, macOS 27 will mark the end of Intel Mac support, requiring an M1 chip or later. Rosetta 2 support will also phase out after this release.

While the official name for macOS 27 remains under wraps, speculation suggests “macOS Big Bear” or “macOS Emerald,” the latter reflecting a focus on performance akin to the Snow Leopard update. Developers will gain access to macOS 27 post-WWDC on June 8, with a public beta in July and a full release in the fall.
