The City of Hoboken is seeking public input on two design proposals aimed at enhancing safety along Willow Avenue, from 11th Street to 16th Street. This area is identified as part of Hoboken’s High Crash Network and Hudson County’s Bicyclist High Injury network, highlighting the need for improvements. The designs, developed in collaboration with Hudson County, include features such as protected bikeways, high-visibility crosswalks, pedestrian refuge islands, ADA-accessible curb ramps, and more. The main difference between the proposals is the placement of the protected bike lane, either on both sides of Willow Avenue or as a two-way lane on the east side. Public feedback is encouraged until August 5 through an online contact form. The project aims to eliminate traffic deaths and injuries by 2030, in line with Vision Zero goals. Additional community engagement sessions are planned, with construction expected to start in 2027. In 2021, initial safety upgrades were made, and further improvements were funded with a $1.4 million grant in 2023. More information and design reviews are available online.
