Samsung’s Galaxy S series consistently sets the tone for the year’s smartphone innovations, with the Galaxy S Ultra sitting at the pinnacle of this lineup. While the Ultra is known for its size, power, and the inclusion of an S Pen, there’s always room for improvement. Here are some desired features for the upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra.
First, a return to curved designs could enhance comfort and distinguish the phone from competitors. The flat, iPhone-like frame of the Galaxy S25 Ultra was less comfortable than the rounded designs of its predecessors.
Next, the camera bump could benefit from more character. The Contour Cut design of the Galaxy S21 and S22 added personality and protection, which was lacking in the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s simpler design.
In terms of photography, a 10x optical zoom would be a welcome return, improving mid-range zoom quality. The current reliance on a 5x sensor and digital enhancements from the primary sensor could be replaced by a dedicated longer focal length lens.
The S Pen, a hallmark of the Ultra series, needs its advanced features back, such as Bluetooth connectivity for remote controls, which were absent in the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
Lastly, adopting Qi2 wireless charging and improving the battery and charging setup would keep the Ultra competitive. The 5,000mAh battery and 45W wired charging have remained unchanged for several generations, while competitors offer faster charging and larger batteries.
While the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s release is certain, whether to wait for it depends on individual needs and the current state of one’s device. As the launch approaches, potential buyers might weigh it against current offerings from Samsung and rivals like Google and OnePlus.
