Apple has introduced a new Icelandic environment called ‘Thórsmörk’ in the latest visionOS 27 beta, available to Vision Pro developers following the WWDC 2026 keynote. ‘Thórsmörk’, named after the Norse god Thor, is a mountain ridge in Iceland that provides both nighttime and daytime experiences of its icy landscape, complete with wintry sound effects, running water, and a view of the Northern Lights. This environment allows users to transform their physical surroundings into different places, such as Yosemite or the Moon, and can enhance app usage or serve as a backdrop for movies. In Thórsmörk, video colors are reflected in the snow and water for added immersion. Last year’s visionOS 26 introduced an interactive Jupiter Environment using NASA imagery for authenticity. Although there were few mentions of visionOS 27 during Apple’s keynote, the software will benefit from the same Siri AI features coming to iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 Golden Gate, with an expected release in the fall.
