iPhone users who subscribe to additional iCloud storage beyond the free 5GB will enjoy two new benefits with iOS 27 at no extra charge. Firstly, Apple is introducing daily usage limits for some enhanced Apple Intelligence features, such as image generation. However, users on most iCloud+ storage plans, except the basic 50GB tier, will have increased access to these features. This is due to the reliance on powerful server models, which are costly to operate. The upgraded Apple Intelligence now uses Google’s Gemini models, enhancing features like the Image Playground app, capable of creating photorealistic images. The specific daily limits for image generation remain undisclosed.
Secondly, certain iCloud+ plans will now support Apple Intelligence features for smart home cameras within Apple’s Home app. These enhancements for HomeKit Secure Video cameras include generated video descriptions, searchable camera clips, and automatic highlighting of significant clips. These benefits are expected to require an iCloud+ plan with at least 200GB of storage. Subscribers to Apple One Family or Apple One Premier plans will also receive these advantages.
