What’s new with iOS 26?

Apple is set to unveil iOS 26, marking a significant shift in its software naming strategy to align with other platforms like iPadOS, macOS, and watchOS. Contrary to expectations of an iOS 19 release, the tech giant is skipping ahead to iOS 26, adopting a naming approach similar to car model years. This update promises to be one of the most transformative since iOS 7, with a comprehensive redesign inspired by visionOS, featuring updated icons, menus, and a simplified user interface.

The new iOS 26 will also bring a revamped Camera app, streamlined Siri performance, and AI-driven battery management tools. However, not all iPhone models will support this update, with rumors suggesting the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max may be excluded. Additionally, Apple is focusing on stability, ensuring a smooth user experience despite the extensive changes.

Other anticipated features include enhancements to the Messages app, a redesigned CarPlay interface, and improved Wi-Fi connectivity. While some features from iOS 18 are still rolling out, Apple aims to introduce new functionalities gradually throughout the iOS 26 cycle. The official announcement at WWDC is expected to be followed by developer and public beta releases, leading up to a full release in September.
