The rising prices of memory chips are causing concerns across various tech sectors. Recently, there has been a notable increase in PC RAM and graphic card prices. This trend is expected to affect mobile devices as well. TM Roh, co-CEO of Samsung Electronics and head of its mobile division, has indicated that the company might have to increase prices for Galaxy devices due to the ongoing memory chip shortage. Despite Samsung’s strong position in the semiconductor market, the shortage is impacting not just smartphones and tablets but also consumer electronics like TVs and home appliances. Roh mentioned that while some impact on prices is unavoidable, the company is developing long-term strategies to mitigate the effect on consumers. Memory chip suppliers, including Samsung, are reportedly favoring short-term contracts, which suggests that even Samsung’s mobile division isn’t receiving any special advantage.
