Is the Galaxy Z Flip 7 Truly More Compact Than the S24?

Many users of the Galaxy S24 may have opted for the 6.2-inch base model due to its compact size compared to the Plus and Ultra variants. However, Samsung offers an even more compact option with the Galaxy Z Flip 7, which features a 4.1-inch cover screen. But does this make it a more compact alternative to the Galaxy S24?

When folded, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is indeed smaller, measuring 85.5 x 75.2mm, and offers a unique user interface on its Super AMOLED cover display. However, once unfolded, the phone reveals a 6.9-inch display, making it significantly larger than the S24, which measures 147 x 70.6mm and weighs 168 grams. The unfolded Flip 7 measures 166.7 x 75.2mm and weighs 188 grams.

The choice between the two depends on your priorities. If portability is key, the Flip 7’s folded form is appealing. But if one-handed usability is crucial, the S24 might be more suitable unless you frequently use the Flip 7’s cover screen.

Technically, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 offers advantages over the S24, such as newer firmware, more RAM and storage, a faster Exynos 2500 chip, and support for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. It also features a slightly larger battery and now supports Samsung DeX for a desktop-like experience.

Price, however, is a consideration. The Flip 7 is more expensive, with a trade-in discount of $300 for the S24, but it still costs at least $799. Considering the S24’s value, this might not seem like a fair trade. Those interested in the Flip 7 might find better deals during the holiday shopping season.
