SPARQ, a pioneering AI-native game engine and creator platform, has launched its $8.5 million seed round from its base in Ras Al Khaimah’s Innovation City, the first AI-driven free zone globally. Andreessen Horowitz’s scout fund is an early participant, signaling a belief that the UAE is poised to become a hub for future billion-dollar creative enterprises.
Traditionally, game development has required extensive coding and large studio teams, but SPARQ is set to revolutionize this with its AI-native engine. This engine automates non-design elements such as coding, asset management, networking, publishing, and monetization, allowing creators to maintain control over the game’s design and player experience. Unlike simple demo tools, SPARQ’s engine enables individual creators to develop and distribute fully-fledged games across various platforms.
This funding round comes after two years of product development, during which the founders invested $2.5 million into creating a proprietary C++ engine with high-quality rendering capabilities. The company has already attracted a team of over 20 senior engineers and a waitlist of 6,000 creators, showcasing the product’s potential even before seeking external investment.
Andreessen Horowitz’s interest was piqued by the opportunity to simplify game creation in a $300-billion industry that currently lacks accessible tools for the 250 million aspiring creators. The firm’s decision to back SPARQ was solidified after witnessing a live demonstration of the engine’s capabilities, highlighting the founders’ commitment and the product’s readiness to transform the gaming landscape.
