Samsung has unveiled its latest HDR format, HDR10+ Advanced, designed to compete with Dolby Vision 2. Targeted at the newest high-end TVs reaching brightness levels of 4,000 to 5,000 nits, this format promises improved control and accuracy, enhancing the visual experience, especially for streamed games. HDR10+ Advanced introduces six major upgrades, including an expanded brightness range, precise color performance, support for additional local tone mapping zones, genre-specific picture processing options, advanced motion smoothing, and cloud gaming optimizations. The format is expected to launch with Samsung’s 2026 TV lineup, with Amazon Prime Video already committed to offering HDR10+ Advanced content. Despite its royalty-free nature, similar to HDR10+, the slow adoption by content creators and streaming platforms leaves the future impact of HDR10+ Advanced uncertain.
