Are GE’s $300 Smart Shades Compatible with Apple Home?

GE Lighting has introduced new Smart Shades compatible with the Matter protocol, allowing seamless integration with the Apple Home app. These shades, priced from $300, offer an easy, screw-free installation and come in white and gray fabric options. Buyers can choose between translucent fabric that allows light to filter through or a blackout version for complete darkness. All models feature aluminum trim with no visible hardware.

The motorized shades can be controlled using a remote, the Apple Home app, Siri voice commands, or through time-based automations. Users can also integrate the shades with other smart home devices or adjust them based on occupancy.

Supporting Matter over Thread, these shades can connect to Apple’s HomeKit using a compatible Matter hub, such as an Apple TV, HomePod, or HomePod mini. Available in widths up to 38 inches and lengths up to 76 inches, the shades are powered by a “whisper quiet” motor. They come with a magnetic rechargeable battery that lasts up to six months.

The GE Smart Shades are available for purchase on Amazon and the GE website, with prices ranging from $299 to $370, depending on size and fabric choice.
