Are GE’s $300 Smart Shades Compatible with Apple Home?

GE Lighting has introduced its new Matter-compatible Smart Shades, which integrate seamlessly with the Apple Home app. These shades, starting at $300, boast an easy, screw-free installation and come in white and gray fabric choices. Buyers can select between a translucent fabric that allows light through or a blackout option. All variants feature aluminum trim with no visible hardware.

The motorized shades can be adjusted using a remote control, the Apple Home app, Siri voice commands, or through time-based automations. They also offer integration with other smart home devices and can adjust based on household presence.

Supporting Matter over Thread, the shades connect to HomeKit via a compatible Matter hub, such as Apple TV, HomePod, or HomePod mini. Available in widths up to 38 inches and lengths up to 76 inches, the shades are powered by a “whisper quiet” motor. A magnetic rechargeable battery, included with the shades, lasts up to six months on a single charge.

Consumers can purchase the GE Smart Shades on Amazon or the GE website, with prices ranging from $299 to $370, depending on the size and fabric choice.
