Are iPhone 17 and MacBook Air users facing a critical security threat from the Indian government?

Apple users are once again facing a significant security alert issued by the Indian government, impacting iPhones, Macs, iPads, and other devices. The latest warning specifically targets iPhone 17 users, highlighting a major security risk. This alert, issued by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), also affects users of iPhone 16 and older models, as well as various iPad models.

The CERT-In bulletin, dated December 16, 2025, rates the threat as highly severe, detailing multiple vulnerabilities in Apple products. These vulnerabilities could allow attackers to execute arbitrary code, gain elevated privileges, disclose sensitive information, bypass security restrictions, or cause denial of service conditions.

Affected software versions include Apple iOS and iPadOS versions prior to 26.2 and 18.7.3, macOS versions prior to Tahoe 26.2, Sequoia 15.7.3, and Sonoma 14.8.3, as well as earlier versions of tvOS, watchOS, visionOS, and Safari.

The good news is that Apple is aware of these vulnerabilities and has provided updates to secure these devices. Users are advised to update their devices by navigating to Settings – General – Software update to protect against potential threats.
