In February, Roop Pal and Puneet Sukhija founded the construction startup Bild AI, and recently secured a $3.1 million seed investment led by Khosla Ventures, with contributions from Mission Street Capital, Ryan Sutton-Gee, and Ooshma Garg. Bild AI aims to revolutionize the construction industry by using artificial intelligence to analyze blueprints and estimate the necessary materials and costs for projects, a process traditionally done manually and prone to errors. The company plans to expand its technology by hiring more engineers. The idea for Bild emerged at a Hack for Social Impact event in San Francisco, and the startup quickly gained acceptance into Y Combinator. Early clients include material suppliers, and the company generates revenue through subscription fees. By reducing preconstruction costs, Bild aims to lower rental prices in elastic housing markets. The startup’s ultimate goal is to enhance its blueprint-reading technology for use in the permitting process, potentially reducing costs for both residential and non-residential projects. Additionally, AI is being increasingly adopted in the construction industry to improve worker safety.
