How is Shenzhen leading China’s robotics industry?

At the recent Fair Plus robotics trade show in Shenzhen, the focus was on practical robotics applications, showcasing robots performing tasks like sorting supermarket stock, serving popcorn, and transporting large boxes. Shenzhen-based X Square Robot demonstrated its wheel-based humanoids, equipped with the company’s Wall-A embodied foundation model, capable of picking up rubbish and handling household chores such as folding laundry and scooping cat litter.

Thanks to a robust supply chain and diverse applications, Shenzhen has established itself as a leader in China’s robotics sector. In 2025, the city’s robotics industry output reached a record high, increasing by 20% from the previous year to over 242 billion yuan (approximately US$35.4 billion). Shenzhen produced 43% of China’s service robots, totaling nearly 8 million units, and manufactured 194,900 industrial robots, representing a quarter of the national output. This achievement has solidified Shenzhen’s position at the forefront of both service and industrial robotics in China.
