What new features will macOS 27 bring?

Apple is set to reveal its latest software platforms at the WWDC 2026 keynote on June 8, including the anticipated macOS 27 for Mac computers. The first developer beta of macOS 27 is expected to be available right after the keynote, with a public beta following in July. The official release is planned for September.

While macOS 26 is known as macOS Tahoe, the name for macOS 27 remains under wraps. The new version promises significant upgrades, particularly for Siri, which will include a dedicated app with conversation history, making it more akin to AI models like ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini. Personalized Siri features previewed in 2024 will also be integrated, allowing Siri to provide information based on data from Mail and Messages apps.

Additionally, Apple is enhancing its Intelligence features in collaboration with Google Gemini, although specific details are yet to be disclosed. A touch-optimized version of macOS is also in the works, designed for a future MacBook Pro or MacBook Ultra with a touchscreen. This version will feature intuitive touch controls, although these enhancements may remain hidden until the device’s release, expected by early 2027.

Emphasizing stability, macOS 27 aims to improve quality and performance, reminiscent of the 2009 Mac OS X Snow Leopard. It will focus on bug fixes, stability improvements, and possibly some design enhancements with Liquid Glass. Notably, macOS 27 will be exclusive to Apple silicon Macs with the M1 chip and newer, marking the end of major updates for Intel-based Macs, though security updates will continue for some time.

Finally, macOS 27 will no longer support AirPort Time Capsule or storage drives using the Apple Filing Protocol (AFP), necessitating the use of drives compatible with newer file-sharing protocols like SMBv2 and SMBv3 for backups.
