Which U.S. States Will Offer iPhone Driver’s Licenses?

Residents in select U.S. states can now add their driver’s license or state ID to the Apple Wallet app on their iPhone and Apple Watch. This digital ID can be used to verify identity or age at specific airports, businesses, and apps. Currently, 13 states and Puerto Rico support this feature, with plans to expand to at least seven more states, including Connecticut, Kentucky, and Virginia.

To activate this feature, users must open the Wallet app, tap the plus sign, and select Driver’s License and ID Cards, following the subsequent instructions.

Apple Wallet IDs are accepted at TSA checkpoints across more than 250 U.S. airports for domestic travel. However, they are not recognized by law enforcement and have limited use cases, making it necessary to carry a physical ID as well. Participating airports include major hubs like Los Angeles International (LAX), Chicago O’Hare (ORD), and San Francisco International (SFO), among others.

For those in states without Apple Wallet ID support, a Digital ID based on a U.S. passport can be created for age and identity verification at participating TSA checkpoints. This digital passport is not a substitute for a physical passport and cannot be used for international travel. The feature requires iOS 26.1 or watchOS 26.1 and later versions.
