Kitsap Transit is evaluating three potential locations for a new fast ferry terminal on Seattle’s waterfront, aiming to enhance passenger ferry service across Puget Sound. The current terminal at King County’s Pier 50 is limited in capacity, accommodating only two vessels at a time, which restricts service expansion during peak hours. The preferred site is Pier 48, adjacent to the existing terminal, but Pier 46 and Pier 58 are also under consideration for environmental analysis. The new terminal would not only allow more trips but also improve passenger amenities and support electric vessel charging. This initiative comes amid a shift in state transportation priorities, which currently favor the Washington State Ferries network. Despite the challenges, Kitsap Transit is moving forward with its plans, with the goal of completing the environmental review by 2027. The decision on the terminal site is crucial for future service expansions and maintaining ferry connectivity in the region.
