The discovery of two Nipah Virus cases in Kerala has put health authorities on high alert. The National Centre for Disease Control’s Central Surveillance Unit is closely monitoring the situation and staying in constant contact with the state’s health department. The potential deployment of a National Joint Outbreak Response Team is being considered to help coordinate quick containment efforts. A State Control Room has been activated to synchronize various activities, highlighting the urgency of the crisis. Sadly, an 18-year-old woman from the rural Mallapuram district died from the virus on July 1, with tests confirming the infection. Another case involves a 38-year-old woman from Pallakad, who is critically ill and on ventilatory support in a Mallapuram hospital. Health teams have traced over 300 contacts across several districts.
