What are the new features in iOS 26.5 and iPadOS 26.5?

Apple has launched iOS 26.5 and iPadOS 26.5, the latest updates to its operating systems, arriving two months after the previous versions. These updates are available for eligible iPhones and iPads via over-the-air download. Additionally, Apple has released updates for older devices, including iOS 15.8.8 and others.

A key feature in iOS 26.5 is the introduction of end-to-end encryption for RCS messages between iPhone and Android users. This feature, still in beta, requires both users to have supporting carriers, with a rollout planned over time. Encrypted messages are marked with a lock symbol, offering similar security to iMessage.

The Maps app now includes a “Suggested Places” section, offering recommendations based on location and recent searches. This update lays the groundwork for upcoming ads in the app.

Apple has also introduced a new Pride Luminance wallpaper, complementing the Pride Luminance Apple Watch face and band. These updates are mirrored on the iPad.

As Apple shifts its focus to the upcoming iOS 27 and iPadOS 27, which will be previewed at the next WWDC, iOS 26.5 and iPadOS 26.5 may be among the last updates to introduce new features.
