Will the iPhone 18 Pro Have a High Starting Price Despite RAM Issues?

Amid a continuing shortage of RAM chips affecting Android smartphone manufacturers, Apple seems poised to leverage the situation with its upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. The tech giant is expected to adopt an “aggressive pricing strategy” for these models, potentially keeping starting prices similar to or only slightly above those of the iPhone 17 Pro series. In the U.S., the iPhone 17 Pro starts at $1,099, while the Pro Max begins at $1,199, both featuring 256GB of storage and 12GB of RAM. While Apple anticipates increased memory costs in the current quarter, its significant market presence may provide it with more negotiating power over RAM suppliers compared to Android competitors. Additionally, Apple is exploring ways to reduce costs in other components like displays and cameras. The iPhone 18 Pro models are anticipated to include a smaller Dynamic Island, a faster A20 Pro chip, a variable aperture on at least one rear camera, a simplified Camera Control button, 5G via satellite, and a new “Dark Cherry” color. Apple is expected to reveal these models in September, with the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e following in March 2027.
