Apple’s tightly controlled ecosystem is gradually becoming more accessible. In recent years, Apple and Google have collaborated to facilitate the transition between Android and iOS devices. This collaboration has led to an enhanced ability to transfer data from an iPhone to an Android device with unprecedented ease.
During the keynote presentation at The Android Show | I/O Edition 2026, Google revealed that an expanded range of data can now be wirelessly transferred from an iPhone to an Android device. Beyond the usual apps, calendar entries, call logs, contacts, eSIMs, images, messages, passwords, reminders, and videos, the transfer process now includes app data and home screen layouts.
The data that can now be seamlessly moved from an iPhone to an Android device encompasses accessibility settings, alarms, free downloadable apps with their data (for supported apps), calendar entries, call history, contacts, email accounts, eSIM, various files, home screen layouts, messages, notes, passwords, wallpapers, and even WhatsApp chats and data.
This improved data transfer process is set to debut on Google’s Pixel and Samsung’s Galaxy devices later this year. It is expected to launch with Android 17 and One UI 9 on devices like the Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8, and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide in July 2026, featuring an enhanced Smart Switch. Following its initial release, it will likely be available on existing devices with the stable One UI 9.0 update.
